Ayres Hotel Hawthorne – Tournament of Roses Parade
The sights and sounds surrounding the annual Tournament of Roses Parade combine to produce a truly unique and memorable travel experience. While staying at the Ayres Hotel Hawthorne, you will visit Pasadena to see the floats being constructed and readied for their parade debut. Throughout the Rose Parade activities, you will be astonished by the fragrances of thousands of flowers, the glorious colors and the wide variety of plant materials that cover these massive works of artistry.
Included is a Paramount Pictures Studio Tour and a visit to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. An optional post-parade viewing of the floats can be added at a nominal cost. Saturday, December 29, 2018– Arrive Los Angeles (Welcome Reception)
Welcome to Los Angeles and Cartan’s 2018/2019 Tournament of Roses Parade celebration. Cartan Tours will be providing complimentary transfers from the Los Angeles International Airport to the Ayres Hotel Hawthorne between 10:00AM and 4:00PM. The hotel is just 15 minutes from the Los Angeles International Airport. When you arrive at the hotel, a Cartan staff member will be waiting to welcome you and assist with your check-in arrangements. The Ayres Hotel Hawthorne is a wonderful place to stay! The design is elegant, but the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting with “Old World Charm.” The time between your busy Tournament of Roses Parade activities, finds you in comfortable and spacious surroundings. This evening, join your Cartan representatives for a welcome reception with light refreshments. Here, you will meet other members of your group and be introduced to your Cartan Tour Managers. A Cartan representative will review your activities and schedule for the days ahead, and answer any questions you might have. Dinner is on your own. The hotel restaurant offers an excellent menu.
Sunday, December 30, 2018– Float Construction Viewing, Hollywood (B, L)
Most mornings, you will be treated to a full American buffet-style breakfast. Today is a busy day, but sure to be filled with wonderful memories. Following breakfast, we are on our way to Pasadena. Viewing the floats up-close and in living color has always been an exciting activity. This is your chance to see the detail of the vast array of flowers, seeds and natural plant materials still being placed to cover these massive floats. “Fanfest” activities vary from year to year, but always provide some tasty food and a chance to buy official Rose Parade souvenirs. Next, stop at Graumann’s Chinese Theater (now known as the TLC Chinese Theatre) to enjoy the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Here you can have your picture taken with a movie character or look for your favorite performer’s star. You will also have enough time to get the best view of the famed HOLLYWOOD sign! You can also take a peek into the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars are held every year. There are plenty of souvenir shops with unique products to buy. A buffet lunch will be included. Return to the Ayres Hotel with time to relax. Dinner is on your own tonight.
Monday, December 31, 2018 – Harbor Cruise – Long Beach, Paramount Pictures (B, D)
This morning we head to Long Beach for a harbor cruise. Afterward there will be plenty of time to wander and explore Shoreline Village, a waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment center that overlooks Long Beach’s beautiful Rainbow Harbor. The Village, styled after a quaint Cape Cod fishing village, welcomes you with a relaxed atmosphere and a full complement of things to see and do. Take in the many unique specialty shops and don’t forget the antique carousel! Have lunch at one of Long Beach’s restaurants, while enjoying the amazing views. Next, you will experience 100+ years of Hollywood history with Cartan Tours’ V.I.P. Paramount Pictures Studio Tour (participants must be 10 years or older.) During your visit, you’ll see where some of the most celebrated motion pictures and TV shows are made. Explore iconic filming locations: New York backlot, the famous Bronson Gate, soundstages and more.
Tonight’s New Year’s Eve plated dinner is in the ballroom at the hotel. If later this evening you decide to see how Californians welcome in the New Year, there are a number of nightspots near the hotel.
Tuesday, January 1, 2019 – Rose Parade (B, L)
An early morning is in order, as you do not want to miss a moment of the 130th Tournament of Roses Parade! Cartan’s Rose Parade package always includes top category, reserved grandstand seats on West Colorado. This puts you at the start of the parade, with the sun at your back. The bands are in tune, the floats are ready and you are about to experience the thrill of watching the Rose Parade! After the parade, enjoy a delicious boxed lunch, as we return to the Ayres Hotel Hawthorne. This afternoon we will offer those who are interested, a visit to one of the local beach communities. The coaches will stay a couple of hours, so you will have a chance to see the ocean and walk along the boardwalk. Dinner is on your own tonight.

This is a limited opportunity to view the floats after they’ve completed the parade route. Following the parade, we will take you to this special viewing at Victory Park. The viewing of the floats is a self-directed walking tour. Guests who elect to purchase this package should note that our motorcoaches will depart Pasadena about 4:00PM. It will be a long day, but for flower-lovers, a rewarding one. A limited amount of tickets are available.

After the parade, we return to the bus to enjoy a boxed lunch that will be waiting for you. It is then a short drive from our parade parking to the Rose Bowl Stadium. You will arrive in plenty of time for the kickoff and pregame festivities!” Cartan Tours offers reserved corner end zone seating that include seat backs. After the game, you will be transferred to your hotel. A limited amount of tickets are available and reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. **NOTE** Please refer to the FAQ section for what is allowed to be taken into the stadium.

Wednesday, January 2, 2019 – Departure (B – time permitting)
Breakfast will be offered at the hotel’s normal operation time. Cartan will have complimentary transportation from the Ayres Hotel Hawthorne to the Los Angeles International Airport starting at 6:00AM and continuing until 2:00PM. Optional Rail Day Tour: Wednesday, January 2, 2019 – San Diego
Stay an extra day in sunny California after the Rose Parade and join us on a California rail tour! We will leave the hotel early for our delightful excursion departing on Amtrak in business class from Fullerton Station. The train departs for San Diego at 9:15AM, with a light snack aboard. The 2 1/2 hour ride hugs the dramatic landscape along the coast. Upon arrival into San Diego , we will quickly taxi to Seaport Village for the start of our panoramic trolley tour, including a visit to Coronado. Following the tour, the trolley will return to Seaport Village where we will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Then it is back to the train station for our return journey to Fullerton, followed by a transfer back to our hotel with an estimated arrival time of 10:00PM.

Is there much walking or standing in lines involved?
The float construction barns are close to where we park; however, there will be some standing in line. Other activities scheduled are dependent on the event itself. Our city highlights tour has a few stops with minimal walking. On parade day it is about 2 city blocks (a little uphill) to the seats. If you take the Post Parade Float viewing option, it is a self-guided walking tour where you choose how much to see.
Where are our seats at the parade and are there toilet facilities?
The seats are located on W. Colorado Blvd. Our seats are where they make the turn onto Colorado. The cameras are located there as well. The sun is to our backs. Porta-Potties are located beneath the bleacher seats.
What are the seats like and what can I bring?
The seats are bleacher-style, much like at a little league baseball game. Although the seats can be high there are NO bad seats. Space is tight and there are no backs to the seats. Stadium seats with backs are frowned upon by your neighbor. We provide you with a souvenir cushion. Bring your camera! Do not bring any large bags! There is no room to store them. No umbrellas at the parade. If it is raining we will provide ponchos.
What about meals and dietary needs?
Breakfast is included daily. There are other meals that are included throughout the tour. We will do everything we can for those who have allergies or medical conditions. Please let us know well ahead of time and please understand we are at the mercy of the vendors.
Is there handicap seating available?
Yes. We have a limited amount of handicap (wheelchair) seating with a companion ticket.
Please advise us as early as possible. If you are able to climb stairs to the seats but need a wheelchair to the seating area, there is a place under the bleachers to leave your wheelchair during the parade.
What about tipping?
All tips for the Cartan Tours staff, step-on guides, bus drivers and meals are included. A small token to the housekeeping staff may be left at the end of your stay. As always use your discretion for exceptional service.
How does the airport/hotel transfer work? (Ayres Hotel – Hawthorne / DoubleTree Hotel – Torrance)
On December 29th our complimentary motorcoach LAX Airport shuttle is available 10:00AM – 4:00PM. There will be Cartan Tours staff in the baggage claim area wearing red Cartan Tours jackets, holding signs while on duty at the Los Angeles International Airport. Please wear your name badges and use the Cartan Tours luggage tags to assist us in finding you. The return shuttle on January 2nd is available 6:00AM – 2:00PM for flights departing 9:00AM or after (we recommend that you depart a minimum of 3 hours prior to your flight). Shuttle time to the airport is approximately 20 minutes. If your arrival or return flight is outside of these times you will need to make arrangements at your expense. There is no refund for unused complimentary transfer service.
What should I pack?
Casual clothes along with comfortable shoes are suggested. None of our functions are dressy affairs. Mornings and evenings can be cool, while daytime temperatures can be warmer. We suggest dressing in layers, especially on Parade Day when we leave VERY early. Bring a pair of gloves for Parade Day. We will supply ponchos in case of rain.
Are transportation and admission fees included?
We provide transportation to and from all included activities. Upon arrival at your hotel, there will be a Cartan Tours desk where you will receive your tickets for the events you have chosen. You will be instructed as to which events need a ticket, and which events we will be admitted to as a group without an individual ticket.
Do I have to attend all activities or functions?
No, however you have paid for everything and there are NO refunds. If you cannot or wish not to attend a function or activity, please let your tour manager know so that we are not spending valuable time looking for you and holding up the rest of the group. Please note, any changes you make are at your own personal cost.
What restrictions are there for the football game?
The Rose Bowl Stadium has implemented a clear bag policy for all events at the Rose Bowl Stadium. We encourage fans to conform to the policy prior to arriving at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

It is generally a 45 minute ride, depending on traffic it could be longer.
