Scenic Delights – 14 Days / 13 Nights


This trip is a trove of travel treasures- Scenic Delights! Victoria is enchanting. Your motorcoach trip to the northern part of Vancouver Island travels through dense forests, past huge lakes and mountain peaks. BC Ferries departs from Port Hardy for a cruise on the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert. Continue your travels across British Columbia’s interior in a deluxe all-domed viewing car aboard VIA Rail’s Skeena. We consider this train trip to be one of the best rail values in the world. All of this, followed by five nights in the magnificent Canadian Rockies.


Day 1 – Arrive Vancouver
Welcome to Vancouver. Your package includes a transfer from the airport to your hotel. The Sheraton Wall Centre puts you in the heart of the city, close to shops and restaurants.

Day 2 – Vancouver to Victoria
This morning your motorcoach will be driven aboard a modern BC Ferry for a cruise through the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island. Your first stop is Butchart Gardens, so bring your camera. No picture quite prepares you for the size and abundance of these glorious gardens. Victoria’s historic waterfront is your next stop and your hotel is just a short distance from this hub of activity.

Day 3 – Victoria
Victoria has numerous endearing qualities, but the one you will remember longest is the warmth and kindness extended by everyone you meet. Enjoy your day in this city filled with flowers and charming people.

Day 4 – Victoria to Port Hardy
Vancouver Island is a beautiful place. This morning you depart on the coach that will transfer you from Victoria to Port Hardy. You will stop first at the Brentwood Bay Scenic pullout and then continue on to Duncan to view the Totem Poles. Further north is Chemainus, “the city of murals” here you stop for a 50 minute break to explore this unique town and for photos. You continue up island to the Coombs Country Market made famous for the goats that graze on the roof. Here, you stop for a 1-hour lunch break. (lunch not included) After lunch, follow the scenic route along the shoreline through Qualicum Beach then north on the island highway past Campbell River. At Cable Café, a unique building made of logging cable, you stop for a 15 minute coffee stop. The tour ends with hotel drop off in Port Hardy. The next morning, a transfer is included to the BC Ferry terminal to board the vessel departing for Prince Rupert.

Day 5 – Cruise the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert
An early morning is in order as the ferry departs at 7:30AM. Once on board, you have access to the many lounges and restaurants. The trip is about 15 hours, so you have ample time to look for wildlife along the way. You are scheduled into Prince Rupert at 11:30PM.

Days 6 – Prince Rupert
Prince Rupert offers an array of ways to touch nature. It has the feel of a place where people know and care about their neighbors, and it isn’t too hard to imagine a moose walking down main street. Cow Bay is a must see with great bovine decorating ideas at every turn. Fish lovers will find that the halibut is so fresh and delicious, you will want it for every meal.

Day 7 – Prince Rupert to Prince George aboard the Skeena
VIA Rail offers Touring Class with access to the domed viewing cars and meals included. We believe that this unique route makes it one of the best rail values in the world. Your train departs at 8:00AM and arrives at 8:10PM, so you have a full day of scenic delights. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included and will be served at your seat.

Day 8 – Prince George to Jasper aboard the Skeena
Today you depart on the Skeena for Jasper at 8:00AM. You will arrive at 4:45PM. Breakfast and lunch are served aboard the train. When you arrive in Jasper, pick up your rental car and go to your hotel.

Day 9 – Jasper
Consider a visit to secluded Maligne Lake, the drive is beautiful. Enjoy your day at leisure.

Day 10 – Jasper to Lake Louise
Today you travel through some of the most beautiful vistas found anyplace on the globe. A stop at the awesome Athabasca Glacier for an Ice Explorer ride is highly recommended.

Day 11 – Lake Louise to Banff
Banff is a picture postcard of the Canadian Rockies. Be sure you see Bow Falls, the Cave and Basin, Tunnel Mountain and take a gondola ride up the side of Sulphur Mountain.

Day 12 – Banff
You are never at a loss for things to do in Banff. The town is filled with delightful shops and boutiques. Mother Nature’s handiwork is everywhere you look. You will soon see why Banff has developed from a railroad stop, to one of the best known resorts in the world.

Day 13 – Banff to Calgary

You clear Canadian Customs and immigration at your first point of entry into Canada. Customs and Immigration clearance is generally a quick and simple process. Please note that Non-citizens should carry a valid passport and check with their local Canadian Council for visa requirements.

If transfers are included in your tour package, vouchers have been provided. Present your vouchers to the bus driver.

Be casual and comfortable. Comfortable shoes are a must. We suggest flat shoes with rubber soles on the train, as this makes getting around easier and safer.

We are pleased to pass your requests to our hotels, but we cannot guarantee that the hotels will be able to accommodate these requests. Please keep in mind, that often hotels are filled to capacity.

Electricity is on the same current in Canada as in the states – 110 volts. If you are traveling on VIA Rail, bedrooms have a small sink and outlet for small appliance use like razors.

When planning your daily activities, please keep in mind that your hotels are generally not available for check in until mid afternoon. If you arrive and cannot check in, we suggest you leave your bags with the hotel bell desk and go off to explore the city!

Based on your tour service selections, Cartan has reserved and paid for these tour services. Services, which you elect not to use, are not refundable. In the event a service cannot be used for reasons beyond your control, a refund will be issued provided the service supplier has agreed that they will refund or credit Cartan Tours. Based on the service suppliers’ refund to Cartan Tours, requests for qualifying refunds must be made in writing and will be processed less a $35.00 handling fee.

Incidental charges such as valet, telephone calls, beverages, and room service must be cleared before leaving the hotel. If you have made calls with a credit card or called collect, you may still have charges to clear. The hotels will appreciate your clearing them before you leave.

Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Canada. To avoid carrying large amounts of cash, we suggest you use your credit cards. Change the amount of money you feel you will need for general day-to-day activities. We find you get the best rate of exchange when you exchange money at a bank. Most people find it convenient to change money at the airport bank when they arrive.

Cartan Tours pays GST on all taxable inclusions; however, we are not required to pay GST on hotel stays for non-Canadian visitors. Thus, there is no GST rebate due on hotel rooms reserved and paid by Cartan Tours.

Tipping percentages and policies are as in the States. A very acceptable tip for a meal is 15%. When dining, always check to ensure the service charge has not been added to your bill. You will see a tax charge that averages 12 – 17%. Service, if charged, should also be listed. Although menus frequently specify their policy on tipping, if unsure, feel free to ask.

It is customary in Canada to leave a small tip for the chambermaid. We suggest $1.00 per room per night. Baggage handling we suggest $1.00 – $2.00 per bag.
