Both the Ayres Hotel and Doubletree Hotel Rose Parade Tour packages have a slightly different itinerary on just one day. While the Doubletree Hotel guests enjoyed an afternoon at Warner Bros. Studio and then a night off to enjoy dinner on their own, the Ayres Hotel guests had a relaxing afternoon at their hotel and then headed to dinner and a show at The Grove in Los Angeles by the a capella group, Straight No Chaser.
Assembled from campus of Indiana University in 1996, Straight No Chaser started off as a college a capella group. If you are unfamiliar with a capella music, it means that there are literally no musical instruments that are played. The members of the group sing or make sounds with their mouths to form the “music” behind the lyrics of the songs. While it may sound strange, I assure you that it is pretty spectacular to watch in person and it sounds like REAL INSTRUMENTS.
After all of the members graduated from college and went their separate ways, one of their bandmates put a video of them singing “12 Days of Christmas” on YouTube. And it went “viral” – meaning that millions and millions of people saw it. Like 17 million. Here’s the video I’m referring to:
A record company producer saw this and signed them to a record deal. The rest, they say, is history. They’ve been singing and touring together for 15+ years.
We were treated to an incredible, sold-out performance as part of their “Under The Mistletoe” tour and (based on the survey results) the overwhelming majority of our guests loved the show. From contemporary songs from Adele and Sting, to classics from The Four Tops and The Temptations, and on to Christmas standards (with a Straight No Chaser twist) they had a blast on stage and made sure that the audience was having just as much fun.
It was a great evening of live entertainment, and I even grabbed a CD of their music to take home with me!
Cartan Tours would love to include Straight No Chaser in our itinerary for next year, but we won’t have that information until closer to the time of departure. This was taken from the stage out in to the audience on the night of the show our group attended. Do you see yourself?
