Auberge Saint-Antoine
Located in the Old Port district of Quebec City, steps away from Place Royale, the Auberge Saint-Antoine site has been permanently occupied since the beginning of the French colony in the early seventeenth century. In 1822 the owner of the land built a maritime warehouse. Around 1880, the diminishing lumber trade led to the decline of the port of Quebec City. The warehouse took on a new vocation, serving as a trading place for tableware and glassware for over a century. Abandoned for a period, the warehouse became the centerpiece of major restoration and the principal structure of the Auberge Saint-Antoine, which opened in 1992. The historical and architectural character of the warehouse was meticulously preserved for the benefit of the many visitors who have since enjoyed a stay at the Auberge. In addition to the period walls, doors and windows, many original features are still found in the hotel, such as the wooden floors, beams and a goods hoist attached to the cathedral roof.
