Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Vancouver

Welcome to Vancouver. Your package provides a voucher for the airport shuttle bus. Our choice of hotels puts you in the heart of the city, close to shops, museums and restaurants.

Day 2 - VIA Rail Vancouver to Toronto

Your city sightseeing tour shows you see just how much this lovely city has to offer. Highlights of your tour include Gastown, a lovely 19th century restoration offering a selection of excellent restaurants; colorful Chinatown, BC Place, the Sunken Gardens of Queen Elizabeth Park, totem poles and Stanley Park. Your train is scheduled to depart at 5:30PM. Nothing shows you Canada like a trip on the train. Your bedroom is VIA Rail’s "top of the line" accommodation. Your sitting room by day converts to upper and lower berths at night. Once aboard the train, the staff will see you settled into your room. As a Silver and Blue Class passenger, your fare includes all meals, use of any of the lounges and access to the skyline car for spectacular viewing.

Day 3 & 4 - Enroute to Toronto

Rail travel remains so popular, because of the fine service and care offered by the VIA Rail Staff. Each morning, coffee, rolls and juice are available in the lounge. Brunch is available into the afternoon. The VIA Rail Staff will confirm dinner reservations. One of the great pleasures of traveling by train is meeting people from all over the world.

Day 5 - Arrive Toronto

Yet another day of rail travel is yours to enjoy. You are scheduled to arrive into Toronto this evening. Overnight arrangements have been confirmed at the Fairmont Royal York, located just across the street from the rail station.

Day 6 – Toronto/Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls and the Niagara region is one of Eastern Canada’s most spectacular and beautiful areas. The beauty of the falls is breathtaking and a ride on the Maid of the Mist is fun. Lunch is included. Our garden lovers will be delighted with the array of flowering attractions around the Falls. Your tour allows time for you to do some exploring on your own.

Day 7 – Toronto to Montreal

This morning, consider a walk across the glass floor at the CN Tower, the worlds tallest freestanding structure or visit the SkyDome Hotel, where you can see the ball field through the glass wall in the lobby of the hotel. Toronto you will quickly come to realize is a city where people live and play as well as work. Lake frontage, friendly people, wonderful food and great shopping are a few of the reasons people return again and again. Schedule permitting, a midday train to Montreal with a wonderful lunch, as you sample the pleasures of VIA 1 First Class Service. The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is located right over the rail station, putting you in the heart of Montreal.

Day 8 – Montreal at Leisure

Your morning sightseeing tour visits Montreal’s beautiful churches, historic buildings and Old Montreal located along the shores of the St. Lawrence River where Montreal was founded. Here you'll find the Notre-Dame Basilica, constructed in 1824. This afternoon visit underground Montreal for some great shopping. For your travels to Quebec City, schedules permitting, an early evening departure with dinner on the train. The Fairmont Chateau Frontenac is just a short taxi ride from the Quebec City rail station.

Day 9 – Quebec City

Old Quebec abounds with architectural treasures, and the Quartier Petit Champlain is right out of a fairy tale. The Fairmont Chateau Frontenac is located inside the old city, where you are steps away from shops, restaurants and magnificent views of the St. Lawrence River. This morning you will discover Quebec City’s historic past with visits to the Plaines of Abraham, the Grand-Alee, the Parliament building, the old Military Drill Hall, The Place d’Armes, the Notre Dame de Quebec Basilica and Cathedral, City Hall, the Fortifications, St. John Street and Place Royal. This afternoon your tour continues with visits to Montmorency Falls, the Island of Orleans, the Beaupre coast and the Sainte Anne Basilica.

Day 10 – Quebec City to Halifax

Quebec City is close to perfect and the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac is the perfect place to see it all. The city is exuberant, filled with bright colors, smiling people, beautiful buildings, quant shops in magical streets, flower filled gardens, parks, sidewalk cafes, horse drawn carriages and an ever commanding view of the St Lawrence River. Your sleeper train to Halifax departs at 10PM this evening. We will arrange for a transfer to the rail station. Once on board, the staff will see you comfortably settled into your bedroom.

Day 11 – Arrive Halifax

This is a day to enjoy the train and the scenery.  As you are traveling in Easterly Class, you have access to the domed viewing car and the services of a Learning Coordinator, who will tell you of the regions  history as well as keeping your advised of dining times for included meals. As you travel, you will see beautiful ocean hues, emerald green rolling hills and scintillating sea sprays.  You arrive into Halifax late afternoon.  Our choice of the Delta Halifax lets you enjoy delightful water views as the hotel is located in the harbor area, known as the Historic Properties.

Day 12 – Excursion to Peggy’s Cove or Lunenburg Tour

Today we have arranged a tour to visit one of the Maritimes sightseeing treasures. Depending on the day of week you are in Halifax will depend in the tour you will take.  You may be joining your guide for a morning tour of Halifax, followed by a visit to Peggy’s Cove, Canada’s most photographed fishing village. Or join a kilted guide in “New Scotland” for an enchanting tour of Lunenburg and Mahone Bay.  Lunenburg is home to Nova Scotia’s largest fishing fleet, Lunenburg Academy, extraordinary architecture, supreme shops and more.  From Lunenburg, continue with a drive to Mahone Bay, famous for its churches along the shore and its picturesque beauty.  There will be plenty of time for exploring these remarkable seaside towns.
